3 Days of birthday festivities

3 Days of birthday festivities

Hello friends,

I turned 29 on the 18th of May! Yeeh!  Because it was a bank holiday on a Monday I took the Tuesday and the Wednesday (my birthday) off. So yeeh for long weekends! Because my birthday was in the middle of the week and a lot of people had to work I got two birthdays! Who does not enjoy that huh?

Day 1 pre -birthday (17th May )

Tuesday I went shopping in the city Haarlem and Purmerend with my mother. So my mum and I started in Haarlem. We were browsing the little stores in the center of Haarlem but we decided to have lunch first. We settled to go to Cafe Brinkman which is located on the Grote Markt in Haarlem Center.  I had a sandwich Bali which  was quite tasty . The sandwich photographed really well. Such a nice big sandwich.

I was really surprised that when my mum and I were out and about  it was really nice weather, as the Forecast that week was crap.  It was sunny and even I felt hot on occasion. After lunch we visited some stores  tried on some things and then we decided to go back to Purmerend and do some shopping there.  Once done we returned to my parents house and had some pizza and salad and ofcourse some cake. The cake was really good but I had too much. At 0.00 hours I opened some pressies. Awesome!

Day 2 The real birthday ( 18th May)

Day 2 I spent with my sister. She told me to be at Haarlem station at 12.45 hours  so we could get lunch at 1300 hours.  Lunch, really sis ! She made me  walk this weird route . And I was like what is going on. Where are we having lunch? And then we ended up at Douglas at the MAC counter !! Hell yeah!! I got a MAC make over and afterwards I could choose  € 60,- worth of products! Pretty sweet! As I was in the moment , I sort of caved and purchased some other stuff from MAC. So below you can see the items the MAC artist used on me. Can I just say that the MAC water weight foundation is awesome. My skin looked really nice.

After my MAC makeover we had lunch at the Thrill Grill. I think this is turning out to be a great place for lunch. I opted for the Kranenburger, a burger. On the picture it looks so simple but the flavor combination is awesome. A beef burger , lettuce, red onion jam, Blue Cheese dressing and crushed black pepper on a toasted organic bun. Hmmmm so good. Also their homemade Ice tea is soooo good.

Afterwards it was shopping around and scoring some great deals really. For dinner we had some nice sushi.  Afterwards we chilled out in front of the tv all in all a good day,

Day 3 day of cake

As per Dutch tradition you usually get cake for your co workers. Unfortunately I forgot to make pictures of these cakes. I got  3 cakes and they were delicious.  They all went down a treat.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. I am planning to do a what I got for my birthday post and do a little haul post what  I got during those days. For last year festivities click here . Until next post friends!

Saturday Luncheon and Pre birthday present

Saturday Luncheon and Pre birthday present

Hi everybody, dear readers and subbies

So a week ago my friend J apped me that she was going to be back in the Netherlands and we went out for lunch. We decided to have lunch in my fave place in the city of Purmerend. Het hoedje van de Koningin. Roughly translated as the queens hat. So this restaurant is very Dutch royalty orientated stuffed with  memorabilia. Which I quite enjoy.

We had a lovely lunch and nice cooling drinks as the weather was really nice. Hello sunshine!

Curious what I had for lunch? I had  a lovely Queensclub sandwich with shredded chicken, tomato, cucumber bacon egg, and a curry mayonnaise. Very delicious thank you very much. Just looking at the picture of this sandwich again, makes me all hungry.

During lunch J surprised me with a pre-birthday gift. How kind was that! I received a lovely necklace and a matching bracelet to go with and another bracelet. They are really nice looking and add a nice little touch to an outfit.

Overal I really enjoyed my lunch with J, we chatted a lot and time flew by so quickly. I hope we will meet up soon again!

I hope you  all liked this short little blog. If you like me to do more post like these let me know. If you enjoyed this post you might enjoy this one. To not miss any of my posts subscribe to Thumbelinaslifestyle.com. Until next post friends!

Sunday luncheon

Sunday luncheon

Hello dear readers,

I felt like sharing a quick Sunday post. After a week of horrible weather, finally  some good spring sunshiny weather. Really the weather has been on steroids the last week, which resulted in a nasty migraine attack last Friday . Don’t you hate that when weather causes that.

Anyhow  my sister and I had some lunch at Bagel and Beans.  After long deliberation I went for the Japanese Salmon bagel which was very delightful I must say.  Loving the wasabi and teriyaki sauce that comes with this bagel. It tasted great. Also my Latte was excellently made. Always a delight to come to Bagels and Beans for lunch.

What are you doing this Sunday? Have a good week guys! Until next post friends.

A Wicked Thai Salad

A Wicked Thai Salad

It has been a long time since I posted a recipe on my blog, but recently I felt like posting a recipe. This salad is very refreshing and very summery and it tastes soooooo good, even in the winter time. Also I would say this goes well with grilled food.

For this Thai salad for Two you will need:

Ingredients Salad

  • 1 x Mango
  • 3 x Handfuls  of beansprouts
  • 1 x red Pepper
  • 2 x Spring onion
  • Half a cucumber
  • 3 x  Handfuls of julienne’d carrots ( I cheated and got already julienne’d carrots)
  • 1 x portion rice noodles

Prepare the rice noodles as instructed  and wash them afterwards with cold water. Also make sure that the noodles drain well. Dice the mango, pepper, cucumber in bite size pieces. Either cut or slice the spring onions in pieces. Put all  ingredients ( including the bean sprouts)  in a bowl. Then start with the dressing.

  • 2x Gloves Garlic
  • 1x  Tablespoon of Soy sauce
  • 2x Tablespoons of Fish sauce
  • 2x  Tablespoons of Lime juice
  • 2x Tablespoon oil
  • 2x Tablespoons of sugar

Fry the garlic in the oil  until translucent. Poor in a bowl the soy sauce , fish sauce and the lime juice. Transfer the garlic and oil in in the bowl and add the sugar and taste if the dressing is missing anything. If your done with the dressing, poor the dressing over the salad and mix well. Eat ASAP!  You don’t want a soggy salad!

I hope you all liked this recipe. So if you did,  please like or leave a comment!  Very stupidly I forgot to put in this salad some red onion and the coriander. Sooooo, to make it even more delicious put half a red onion (finely diced), and a handful of coriander in the salad.

Enjoy!  Until next post readers,

2 Weeks of food overload, kitty sitting and beach visiting

2 Weeks of food overload, kitty sitting and beach visiting

Hey everybody, dear readers and lovely subbies,

I feel like the last two weeks, have just consisted out of eating and a lot of activities. It felt like I lived in  Ground Hog day , but in a good way. I just felt so spoiled, food  and activity wise. I had some awesome food, lunches, dinners and deserts. Anyway this explains the  lack of regular posting like Thumbs nails of the week.  Fyi hope to have a Thumbs nails of the weeks post up soon. Anyway folks be prepared for a lot of photo’s with food in them

So the hectic and indulgent food eating fest started when the company I work for had a team building event. So we worked untill 13.00 hours and then left for the Amsterdam city center. There we played a game, which is called  ‘ who is the Rat’, or for the Dutch folk  its known via the name ‘Wie is de Mol’. So the aim of the game  was to finish all the tasks  assigned to three different teams and within this team, there would be someone who would continuously try to sabotage the tasks without getting caught. So around 17.00 hours we finished the game and we headed to the start of the binge eating fest. For food we went to O Reiley’s an Irish pub, near Dam square. And oh my god check out my Steak and Guiness pie, served with brown bread.  It was delish! Look at that crust on that pie.

So after the event  I had kitty sitting duty because my sister was on cooking duty for her birthday party  at my parents house. So you might think who is the little fuzzbal being squished in the picture. This is Bailey ( a.k.a. Cousin Ballz). Yes I know poor kitty being squished. But let me tell you how a kitty sitting day goes.

See, first he gives you the cutest dumb look to persuade you to give food. If he does not get his way, he puts his fluffy  paw down. This means, give me  my food or you will sleep with the fishes tonight!

Which means in puss language, I am gonna wake you every hour on the hour from 6 am onward if you don’t feed me now woman! Who needs alarm clocks if you can have this little guy. Yet he remains soo adorable!

So when I left kitty sitting duties, I arrived at party central a.k.a. food central. So look at the goodies we had. We had Sate Babi, Gado Gado, Chicken, bread. It was all really yummy. FYI,that’s me pigging out.

My sister made these cakes! I went for the Bailey cheesecake and there was also a layered chocolate cake which I missed tasting.

On the Wednesday we had a business lunch at the Korean. I had never eaten Korean in my life, and boy was it good.Unfortunately I don’t know the names of the dishes that we ate,  but I will insert some photo’s down below. Also I am quite sad I did not make photo’s of every dish. I most enjoyed the rice dish which was made in a stone pot and you mix the egg in the rice.  If anyone knows how that dish is called  do tell. It is a great dish!  Also the  noodles both cold and warm were delicious.

So last  weekend I decided to go to the beach. I haven’t been to the beach in Holland in a long time . And all I can say is that I missed the beach, the sand and the sun are just  a heavenly combo.

The bike route going home was also very  beautiful and calming. Who knew I lived near such beautiful nature.

So Sunday my sister and I decided to go into the city center.  And yeeh I managed to restrain myself I did not buy anything. Anyway, can you all tell me why we  did  go out when the heavens decided to come down on us.  I was so soaked and cold and might have gotten a little cranky, I just really dislike being cold and wet. I do have to say the treat I had was pretty good although very filling . Calories ooo the thousands,  a Red Velvet cake with some icing. I never had a Red Velvet cake and it was good.

So I hope you all did not mind this rather large post, filled with sooo much food. Next time I will keep these updates a lot shorter. If you like to see more post filled with Cousin Ballzz  please leave a comment or like the post.

Beef Terayaki Salad and Netflix Saturday

Beef Terayaki Salad and Netflix Saturday

Hi everybody,

Just a quick post again.

Today l am visiting an ex-colleague for some lunch and a Netflix session ☺.

Check out my awesome salad I had for lunch! The steak was really tender, and the flavour combination was epic. I do think this would be better served with some noodles and an Asian inspired salad.

So do you like the look of this salad?
I say its mouthwatering!

Have a lovely weekend and hope to see you soon.
