Weekend Fun

Weekend Fun

Hi everybody, dear readers and loyal subbies,

As I planned to meet an ex colleague this weekend, I thought it would be fun to share what I did this weekend.

So I woke up after another night of not so awesome sleep. I decided to start the day with some fruit and You Tube. It is always nice to start the day with some inspiration. As usual I lingered in my bed way to long ,which made me jump out of my bed ,take a shower and get ready to catch the train to Amsterdam. On the way to Amsterdam I somehow met my sister. Lols!

My ex colleague and I planned to go see the new Jason Bourne film. I must say there was not a dull moment in this film.  I would recommend to watch this film if you have not seen it.

After the film we went to grab some dinner. My friend was happy that we opted for Asian food. I just love it!  We went to China town and went to the restaurant Nam Kee, which is quite famous for their Oysters dish. Must say I did not opt for those as I am not a fan of them.

We started out with some dim sums and spring rolls and then my main was a Wantan Noodle soup which was very delicious and wholesome. I could not finish the bowl of soup.

So after finishing dinner we just had a stroll through our lovely capital which was absolutely packed  with tourists , and then we headed towards the train station.

At the train station we said our goodbye’s and I sort of caved at KIKO and ETOS. So guess what! A haul might be coming your way! But for now what is in the bag is a secret!

Sunday whilst writing this, I am completely lazy enjoying back to back episodes of Modern Family. I will probably end with something really bad from the local chippy. Burger anyone?!

I hope your weekend was fun and relaxing for you all. What did you do? Please leave a comment.  Interested in reading some more? Please like, subscribe or follow me via Twitter. Until next post friends!

Rainbow salad in a Jar

Rainbow salad in a Jar

Hi everybody, dear readers and loyal subbies,

Ok, ok I confess it is not very creative that I am posting two food  related posts in a row. But I felt like sharing this one! This Rainbow salad is so simple to make, uses left over veggies, is healthy  and looks so colorful.

For this Rainbow Salad you will need some ( FYI you are free to add as much or as little as you want of these ingredients. :

  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Carrots
  • Peas
  • Quinoa
  • Lime
  • Pepper
  • Salt

Cook the quinoa as per instructions. For extra flavor I cooked my quinoa in some vegetable stock. Layer all your different components in the jar. Make sure that your quinoa has cooled down. Create a dressing with some lime juice and add salt and pepper to taste and drizzle over your salad in a jar.

I can imagine creating this one with couscous, Beetroot, Feta cheese and cucumber, mint and  a dressing of lime, salt and pepper.  I have not created that one yet but the flavors should work.

I hope you all liked this post. For my last post click here.  And as always please feel free to leave a comment. Until next post friends!

Indian food delight

Indian food delight

Hi all,

Just wanted to share the Indian food which I had with my parents last Sunday.  I just love Indian food. I love the spices and love the smell. The food tastes so good and comforting and I always feel very happy afterwards.

So my dad had the Lamb Vindaloo, my mum had the Tandori Salmon and I had the lamb Bangali. Does it not all look very yummy!

For the desert I had a pistachio kulfi.  Even though  the flavor was very concentrated it was very yummy. The only thing what would have made it more enjoyable for me, and this is personal off course  less coconut on top . But  I loved the pistachio flavor.

I hope you all enjoyed this little food sharing. For my last food orientated post click here. Have a good weekend and until next post.

3 Days of birthday festivities

3 Days of birthday festivities

Hello friends,

I turned 29 on the 18th of May! Yeeh!  Because it was a bank holiday on a Monday I took the Tuesday and the Wednesday (my birthday) off. So yeeh for long weekends! Because my birthday was in the middle of the week and a lot of people had to work I got two birthdays! Who does not enjoy that huh?

Day 1 pre -birthday (17th May )

Tuesday I went shopping in the city Haarlem and Purmerend with my mother. So my mum and I started in Haarlem. We were browsing the little stores in the center of Haarlem but we decided to have lunch first. We settled to go to Cafe Brinkman which is located on the Grote Markt in Haarlem Center.  I had a sandwich Bali which  was quite tasty . The sandwich photographed really well. Such a nice big sandwich.

I was really surprised that when my mum and I were out and about  it was really nice weather, as the Forecast that week was crap.  It was sunny and even I felt hot on occasion. After lunch we visited some stores  tried on some things and then we decided to go back to Purmerend and do some shopping there.  Once done we returned to my parents house and had some pizza and salad and ofcourse some cake. The cake was really good but I had too much. At 0.00 hours I opened some pressies. Awesome!

Day 2 The real birthday ( 18th May)

Day 2 I spent with my sister. She told me to be at Haarlem station at 12.45 hours  so we could get lunch at 1300 hours.  Lunch, really sis ! She made me  walk this weird route . And I was like what is going on. Where are we having lunch? And then we ended up at Douglas at the MAC counter !! Hell yeah!! I got a MAC make over and afterwards I could choose  € 60,- worth of products! Pretty sweet! As I was in the moment , I sort of caved and purchased some other stuff from MAC. So below you can see the items the MAC artist used on me. Can I just say that the MAC water weight foundation is awesome. My skin looked really nice.

After my MAC makeover we had lunch at the Thrill Grill. I think this is turning out to be a great place for lunch. I opted for the Kranenburger, a burger. On the picture it looks so simple but the flavor combination is awesome. A beef burger , lettuce, red onion jam, Blue Cheese dressing and crushed black pepper on a toasted organic bun. Hmmmm so good. Also their homemade Ice tea is soooo good.

Afterwards it was shopping around and scoring some great deals really. For dinner we had some nice sushi.  Afterwards we chilled out in front of the tv all in all a good day,

Day 3 day of cake

As per Dutch tradition you usually get cake for your co workers. Unfortunately I forgot to make pictures of these cakes. I got  3 cakes and they were delicious.  They all went down a treat.

I hope you all enjoyed this post. I am planning to do a what I got for my birthday post and do a little haul post what  I got during those days. For last year festivities click here . Until next post friends!

Saturday Luncheon and Pre birthday present

Saturday Luncheon and Pre birthday present

Hi everybody, dear readers and subbies

So a week ago my friend J apped me that she was going to be back in the Netherlands and we went out for lunch. We decided to have lunch in my fave place in the city of Purmerend. Het hoedje van de Koningin. Roughly translated as the queens hat. So this restaurant is very Dutch royalty orientated stuffed with  memorabilia. Which I quite enjoy.

We had a lovely lunch and nice cooling drinks as the weather was really nice. Hello sunshine!

Curious what I had for lunch? I had  a lovely Queensclub sandwich with shredded chicken, tomato, cucumber bacon egg, and a curry mayonnaise. Very delicious thank you very much. Just looking at the picture of this sandwich again, makes me all hungry.

During lunch J surprised me with a pre-birthday gift. How kind was that! I received a lovely necklace and a matching bracelet to go with and another bracelet. They are really nice looking and add a nice little touch to an outfit.

Overal I really enjoyed my lunch with J, we chatted a lot and time flew by so quickly. I hope we will meet up soon again!

I hope you  all liked this short little blog. If you like me to do more post like these let me know. If you enjoyed this post you might enjoy this one. To not miss any of my posts subscribe to Thumbelinaslifestyle.com. Until next post friends!

Sunday luncheon

Sunday luncheon

Hello dear readers,

I felt like sharing a quick Sunday post. After a week of horrible weather, finally  some good spring sunshiny weather. Really the weather has been on steroids the last week, which resulted in a nasty migraine attack last Friday . Don’t you hate that when weather causes that.

Anyhow  my sister and I had some lunch at Bagel and Beans.  After long deliberation I went for the Japanese Salmon bagel which was very delightful I must say.  Loving the wasabi and teriyaki sauce that comes with this bagel. It tasted great. Also my Latte was excellently made. Always a delight to come to Bagels and Beans for lunch.

What are you doing this Sunday? Have a good week guys! Until next post friends.

Thumbs April favorites and unfavorites

Thumbs April favorites and unfavorites

Hi Friends,

It is nearly the end of the month and it is time for sharing my faves and unfaves for the month of April. Compared to last month I am enjoying a lot of things. Unfortunately I had to add 2 un-favorites for this month but we will come to that towards the end of this post. Lets get started shall we?

Favorites

Big hoop earrings – I bought these earrings myself and I love them. They just give that lil bit extra to your look.

Becca Champagne Pop Highlighter- This highlighter makes my skin so glowy and gives my make up such a lovely finish. I do admit that sometimes I have used a little bit too much, but hey it is my face!

Rimmel 9-in 1 BB cream- When you feel like you don’t want to wear a lot of make up  and you just want some coverage, this is the thing to use. Plus it has some spf to it so good for the protection against the sun.

Carmen  HD2390 Hairdryer- Eventhough this hairdryer was not that expensive it has some power to it. It dries my hair really quickly and it has a nice diffuser with it. Eventhough I am still lacking the skills using this diffuser properly I love it.

Nike running shoes – Wow these shoes are so comfortable. They feel really  light and it is like walking on air with these shoes.  I just love  the pink Nikce logo. Hmm might ask a second pair in black and white for my birhtday.

MAC Mehr – I love this color and it feels so comfortable in the lips and I get compliments when wearing this color which is always nice. It is not too much it is just right.

Restaurant Mandarijn – They just serve glorious food here. It is very affordable and the service is really nice. Last time for my mothers birthday  I ordered the crab dish and it was delicious. Just hard to get in ggegeeg

Un-favorite

Max  Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect Mascara – This mascara is trying to kill me by poking my eyeball out!  I just find it very uncomfortable working with this mascara. .

Breaking up. After nearly five years my boyfriend and I decided to break up. Eventhough this hurts, currently it is the best thing to do for me. And as people say there are many fish in the sea. I will just keep on doing the things that make me happy!

Concluding with the un-favorites ends this post. I hope you all liked reading this one! Until next time friends and hope to see you back soon.

Kim

Lets talk about food shall we?

Lets talk about food shall we?

Hello Friends,

I have not shared a weekend lunch in a while, so as I thought it is Wednesday and the work week has been cut in half,  I am officially allowed to start  dreaming about ( naughty) food again. Because usually I have naughty food in the weekend. Say hello to Carbs|!

Anyhow my sister took me to a ( new for me ) foodplace in Haarlem. And it was a burger place called the Thrill Grill.  This place was absolutely packed to the max and I personally understood why.

So for my food sin I ordered the MESOAMERICAN TACO THRILLER. A lovely mix of a burger on a corn taco. You also had an option to order this  burger on a bun . The burger was dressed with Avocado, Tomato, Red Onion, Gouda Cheese, Coriander, Mayonnaise, Spicy, Salso Roja, Jalapeno and Fresh Lime. That is why it is very hard to locate the burger. Because seriously can you locate that burger on the photo?

That  MESOAMERICAN TACO THRILLER.was really epic!  All those flavors  married so well together. I am saying food party for the mouth! The only thing which was not impressing me that much were the fries. My sister and myself ordered the Parmesan and Truffle Chips to share.  They were fried perfectly don’t get me wrong but they  did not excite me that much.

Overall I can say  it was really nice to decide to eat somewhere else.  Affordable ,comfort food in the city center of  Haarlem. I would definitely opt for going back to this restaurant for a burger.

Untill next time friends, I hope you all enjoyed this food post and as always feel free to leave a comment or subscribe to Thumbelinaslifstyle.com

Thumbs February Favorites

Hi everybody, dear reader and loyal subbies,

It is the  end of the month, and  therefore it is time for a  favorites post. So let me share with you all what I have been enjoying for the month of February .

Beauty

SONY DSC

  • MAC Velvet Teddy. Yes this has been my go to lippie for the month. It looks so pretty on the lips  with a lot of  make up looks and outfits.
  • Soap and Glory  Thick &  Fast Mascara. Nice and lengthening Mascara and great improvement compared to the disastrous Etos mascara’s. This saved my eye lashes when I had no descent mascara in my draws.
  •  Mac Face and Body Foundation. Just a nice foundation to wear when you feel like you need a little bit coverage but you don’t want something light weigth.

Body

  • Soap and Glory the Scrub of my Life. Such a nice scrub for the body and this foams up so nicely in the shower.
  • Soap and Glory Heal Genius. To be honest my feet have been looking like crap lately and this foot cream has hugely improved the status of my feet.
  • Sanicure oil intense. Just lovely moisturizing on the body  and very clean smelling as to be expected from Sanicur.

Food

  • Vietnamese spring Rolls.

So tasty!  Yet so healthy!  The perfect combination. You can make so many tasty combinations, fish, vegetables probably even  meat. I have not tried that yet. If you want to see a post on the rolls , leave a comment.

TV

So the below shows have been my guilty pleasures for the month of February:

  • Gossip Girl
  • The Voice UK

I have been hung up on Gossip girl and I just have to see the Voice UK every Saturday. My personal fave Kevin Simm and Rachel Ann. Will be rooting for them.

So that was it for this months favorites. If you like these kind of posts please like or subscribe and I hope to see you back soon!. Until next time.
